David Hirschorn

Beacon Hill Chorus

David Hirschorn (Dr. H) is in his 8th year as the choral director at Beacon Hill Middle School where he teaches 200 singers in six choirs. He holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University and music education degrees from Florida State University and the University of Miami. David has taught elementary and middle school music for 32 years in both Florida and Georgia. He is the co-author of the Georgia Performance Standards for middle school chorus. His choirs performed at the 2008 and 2018 Georgia Music Educators Conventions and he conducted both the 2009 GMEA District XIII Middle School Mixed Honor Choir and the 2012 GMEA District VII Middle School Honors Treble Chorus. He has been published in Choral Journal, and has presented his research at conferences for GMEA and the International Society for Music Education. David, and his wife Melanie, have two rescue dogs named Bailey and Sasha.

Our choirs perform major concerts in the Fall, Winter and Spring seasons. We also perform an annual combined concert with Decatur High Choral Program. Beacon Hill’s choirs consistently rate superiors at statewide festivals of the Georgia Music Educators Association.
